AirDrop alternative
A Browser-Based AirDrop Alternative for Windows and Android
Need AirDrop-style simplicity across different devices? Pair Windows, Android, iPhone, Mac, or Linux browsers with a QR code and transfer without installing an app.
AirDrop-style file transfer across different platforms
AirDrop is convenient inside the Apple ecosystem, but many homes, classrooms, and workplaces mix Windows PCs, Android phones, iPhones, Macs, and Linux computers. A browser-based transfer provides a common layer without requiring everyone to install the same app.
Drop pairs two browsers using a private QR link. After pairing, either device can select and send files. The service attempts a direct encrypted WebRTC transfer and does not require an account.
Devices you can pair
A modern browser makes many combinations possible:
- Android phone to Windows PC.
- iPhone to Windows PC.
- Android phone to Mac.
- PC to PC or Mac to PC.
- Phone to Linux computer.
Actual success depends more on browser and network support than on the brand printed on the device.
How it works
- Open
drop.cs7.ukon one device. - Scan the QR code with the other device.
- Wait for the private session to connect.
- Choose one or more files on either side.
- Keep both browsers open until the transfer is complete.
- Verify the received files and end the session.
How it differs from AirDrop
Drop is not an Apple feature and does not use the AirDrop protocol. It requires browsers and a network path that permits WebRTC. AirDrop may work locally between supported Apple devices without the same setup. Drop’s advantage is cross-platform reach and no installation.
It also avoids creating a permanent device account or opening personal cloud storage on a borrowed machine.
Security habits still matter
Only scan a QR code shown on the device you intend to pair. Treat the private session link like a temporary secret. Confirm filenames before accepting them, and do not transfer unknown executable files. On a shared computer, remove downloaded copies after use.
Choose the tool that matches the situation
Use AirDrop when both devices support it and you trust the environment. Use Drop when the platforms do not match, installation is unavailable, or you want to move a file without signing into an account on the other device.
Move the file, not your account.
Use Drop to transfer directly between two browsers without signing into email or personal cloud storage on the other device.
